French government seeks to temporarily allow F- and G-rated homes to be rented out again

The Relance Logement bill, presented on 24 June, would allow owners of properties with an F or G energy performance rating (DPE) to rent them out again, provided they enter into a legally binding commitment to carry out energy-efficiency improvements.

The proposed deadline is three years for single-family homes and five years for properties in co-owned buildings. According to the government, this measure could return approximately 700,000 homes to the rental market.

It should be emphasised that this proposal has not yet been definitively adopted. It is particularly relevant to owners of older Provençal houses and apartments that are currently difficult—or no longer possible—to rent out on a long-term basis because of existing energy-performance requirements.
